Data analysis and extracting the desired results from the data are an integral part of an experiment. This book tries to address this need.-he contents of the book can be viewed in three parts. First, some important probability distributions, such as Poisson and Gaussian distributions, are introduced briefly. Simple methods like finding the mean and the standard deviation, weighted averages, and error propagation are also given. The second part deals with the simple methods for extracting parameters from a plot. Finally, the last part introduces the Least Squares Method based on the Maximum Likelihood principle. Specific expressions for some special cases are explicitly given. These include, among others, fitting to a straight line and a polynomial. Throughout the book, there are sufficient examples to demonstrate the methods explained in the text. Although the book has been written for physicists, the topics covered are general enough to be useful for those who are doing experimental work in other areas.-
